This tube is an absolute wonder. Classic single-plate 2A3 construction with a modern 40 watt plate dissipation rating. It's detail is even better than the 300B which we thought was impossible. JJ-2A3-40 Quite possibly the most sturdy modern production triode we have ever seen. This JJ 2A3 boasts a 40 watts plate dissipation rating (which is 25W more than other 2A3 tubes) which will provide wider dynamic response to any system. This 2A3 is single plate construction. The base is white ceramic with a glazed black face.

I took the time to treat the tubes and sockets of my preamp and amp with DeoxIT & PresevIT; and began listening.

#1 I have an Asano 2A3 amp (I bought it new from EIFL a few months ago) that's currently running grey plate RCA 2A3 tubes from 1954. It sounds amazing hooked up to my 846A Valencias, with very little hum, but I wanted to roll the JJs as a backup to the RCAs because we regularly run the system for hours at a time to listen to radio.

I own the JJ 2A3-40 also and in my opinion they are a superb tube. I would go with the JJ 300B and spend any money left over on the very best output transformer you can afford. I have three well respected pairs output transformers suitable for 2A3 or 300B and the output transformers make much more of a difference than the tubes.

This, when combined with a heater center tap, results in a smaller potential difference with respect to the bias voltage and larger active cathode surface. The result is better sound.
